chicagoarchitecturebiennial: Mystical Architecture: Tatiana Bilbao and Gabriel Orozco Meld Water and Sky in the Artist’s HomeThe Observatory House in Roca Blanca, Mexico was collaboratively designed and built by artist Gabriel Orozco and architect Tatiana Bilbao. The house, set into a rocky promontory overlooking the Pacific Ocean, is inspired by the Jantar Mantar astronomical observatory, built in Delhi in 1724, which Orozco visited in 1996. A circular pool rests in the center of the house, creating a visual and sensual link with the sky above and lending a mystical sense of the infinite. Tatiana Bilbao is one of more than 80 architects taking part in the inaugural Chicago Architecture Biennial this fall. -- source link
