I’ve made a recent point of owning compliments and accepting them as truth instead of laughing them away or being dismissive. We talk about self care but then we don’t consider the small ways in which we put ourselves down or don’t accept love. I think this kind of self deprecation is a seed for anxiety, low self esteem and depression. I’ve also found that now I’ve started owning compliments and speaking highly of myself, people who said or thought nothing when I dismissed myself, suddenly side eye me if I talk myself up. Why does it unsettle us to hear someone like themselves? Insecurity and poor sense of self is an epidemic & we can begin to heal it in ourselves with small things like how we speak about ourselves. If I compliment you, own it. -- source link
