carsthatnevermadeitetc: Scarab, 1958. The brain child of racing driver Lance Reventlow whose father was a European count and mother heiress to the Woolworth fortune. The Scarab was based on a Lister which Reventlow felt could be improved upon by fitting it with a Chevrolet V8 to take on European long-distance racing. However a rule change meant the Chevy V8 was too big to qualify for racing in Europe. An attempt to repower the Scarab with a smaller Offy engine failed so it was restricted to racing in the US with some success. Only 8 Scarabs were every built -- source link
