m-khadija: Let’s not pretend that anti-Shia hate, discrimination and prejudice aren’t products of our own societies. We can try to deflect the blame but reality screams louder. Many Muslim majority countries have nurtured & condoned & institutionalized the oppression of Shia Muslims for the longest time. Invalidating their Islam, preaching stereotypes & lies about their practices, inciting hate against them socially and politically and these are the consequences. Don’t erase the realities that have predated the existence of ISIS. If you do, you’re part of the problem. It’s time we have these uncomfortable conversations. The way Islam is taught in many Muslim majority countries breed anti-Shia prejudices & oppression. Let’s not try to make this about the West calling Muslims terrorists. This is our calamity and we need to face it and actively work on it at all levels. Today it’s ISIS but for many years it hasn’t been. We can’t keep hiding. May Allah have mercy on the victims and accept them as martyrs & shower His love upon their families & may He protect Shia Muslims all over the world. Ameen. -- source link
