drakepad: i just have some things to say about this small arc in the darkwing duck comics1) i really don’t know how they can say that drake and launchpad are not married/in a relationship, when the way drake feels throughout this arc is akin to that of someone who has gone through a rough breakup/divorce and i doubt i’m the only person who thinks this2) even negaduck refers to them as “family” (”you wanted to have dual lifestyles: a home, a family”) and then there’s a smashed picture of the mallard-mcquack clan on the floor, symbolising the breakup of their family and drake and launchpad as a whole3) drake looks extremely depressed when gosalyn brings up launchpad, changes the subject quickly within the comics, then after that he proceeds to daydream about three different moments he and launchpad shared during their time together, so much so that his boss comes over and tells him to snap out of it, and the part where drake calls launchpad, listens to his voice, and is unable to talk back just says a whole lot4) poor gosalyn really is just missing her second dad5) “come on d.w., i got ya” i’m just thinking about the emphasis on this, and i think it really shows launchpad as a place of comfort and security for drake (not to mention launchpad holding out his hand for drake, oh GOD i wish they put in a moment of drake grabbing launchpad’s hand but part of me feels like that was a bit too risky for disney if they wanted to keep passing them off as two guys being dudes)6) “this is all your fault!” “me?! i’m not the one that kicked me out of–” “oh, sure, sure, i was just supposed to keep you–” “it’s an idea!” literally just strikes me as a couple who have broken up arguing over why it happened7) gosalyn literally has the universal face of “i’m stuck in the car while my parents are arguing”8) “reunited and it feels so good” :’)all in all this just really strikes me as two people who still love each other that have broken up/gotten a divorce because of something bad happening, then work out their differences and get back together in the end (not to mention it was gosalyn lowkey playing matchmaker, because she kept bringing up launchpad to drake and then went to find launchpad herself in the second comic, she just wanted her dads to get back together) -- source link
