workingclasshistory:On this day, 23 April 1951, 16-year-old schoolgirl Barbara Johns led her fellow pupils in a walkout against racist and substandard conditions in her school in Prince Edward County, Virginia. The school was one of the case studies examined by the Supreme Court which eventually declared segregation unconstitutional. However rather than desegregate, the local school board closed all of its schools, and the private schools which local white children went to instead did not desegregate until 1986.Pictured are some of the strikers 2 years laterWe have too many great anniversaries today to post about on here.
