iguanodont:I’ve been thinking about Thri-Kreen…. like that insectoid race in dnd They can’t speak like other humanoids, communicating instead primarily through signing with their arms and antennae, and more cryptically, with specific pheromones. As it happens, the sensitive noses of goblins are excellent at picking up on the subtle scent-speak of the bug men, and their long narrow ears can emulate the twitching of antennae. As a result goblins are frequently employed (or enslaved) by thri-kreen merchants and chiefs as interpreters. Goblin ingenuity caught up pretty fast, and now no goblin interpreter is complete without their arsenal of manufactured scents, usually carried in little pouches stuck to a special tunic. Because of this special relationship, most words used to describe thri-kreen and their culture, including the word “thri-kreen” itself is goblin in origin.
