northeastnature:It’s spring, and the mole salamanders are emerging from their underground burrows and heading to temporary forest pools to breed. Despite the lingering snowpack, this elegant blue-spotted salamander (Ambystoma laterale) was scrambling over the ice and swimming in meltwater. The swollen part at the tail base suggests this is a male. Good luck, little guy. Far from being fiery, mole salamander romance is a cool, icy affair. -- source link
