danskjavlarna:From The Garden of the Little Lame Princess by Myrtle Jamison Trachsel and illustrated by L. J. Bridgman, 1927. My modest collection of vintage grasshoppers is, well, hopping along. Wondering about this post? Wait for the dissertation (TBA).For now: Weblog ◆ Books ◆ Videos ◆ Music ◆ Etsy You know, I see more art of grasshoppers from the late 1800s to early 1900s than any other period, much of it American. The grasshoppers are so lovingly detailed, more so than any other insect, and portrayed as cute or sympathetic. People really loved grasshoppers!…Thing is, this is the period right after much of the US was savaged by locusts. Grasshopper swarms. The last major swarm was in 1877, and plenty of people would have been alive who remembered the devastation they left. It’s odd. Wouldn’t you expect this generation to hate grasshoppers the most? -- source link
