tall-butt:Written by phil-the-stone: While I personally do not have ADHD, i needed to explain why this is so important to me. My little cousin, who is nine years old, is absurdly - and i mean absurdly - similar to Jake. He hasn’t yet officially been diagnosed with ADHD, but has a lot of learning problems in a classroom setting – so much so that his teachers have pushed for him to be put on medication multiple times. But here’s the thing: like Jake, he can understand incredibly deep and insightful concepts in under five seconds and explain it to you in this weirdly-connected way that you’d never have thought to consider it from before. He can focus for LITERAL HOURS on little projects that he finds relevant or important – whether it be writing a song, creating a Lego thing (and he can make intensely cool Lego things out of his own imagination) or just sitting and talking to himself. But. The moment he doesn’t care about something – say, schoolwork - he finds about a gazillion ways to distract himself. He’s ridiculously emotionally perceptive, but he has difficulty fully expressing his emotions in a coherent way. Like he is SO conscientious and sensitive to other people’s feelings and problems, and yet has difficulty in social settings with friends because he comes on too strong, because he cares so much.
