Time for a cat update? After I had to put down Vasquez in August, Ghoul went a little crazy being a solo cat (as in she was very bored, missed Vas and was driving me crazy). I floundered about getting another cat so soon. I had a pretty long checklist of what I wanted in another cat, not just for me but also for Ghoul. Like, a kitten would be easier on her, but an older cat is less training for me. Someone friendly with people for me. Someone high energy and well socialized for her. I was determined to wait for the right animal.Came across this orange boy in October. I didn’t expect him to hit so many points on my list, but decided to trust my gut (and noblevices).Named him Gourd. The first picture is about two weeks after I got him. She wasn’t too keen on him, but he basically flirted his way into her good graces. He was good at it too- I suspect it’s because he was a tomcat.Second picture is from mid march, chilling together at the vet.Ghoul and Gourd are a great match. They play, chase and wrestle a TON, which is something Ghoul has been sorely missing. Gourd tries to snuggle and groom her, but Ghoul just isn’t ready for that sort of commitment haha. Still, Ghoul is happier and calmer than she’s been in years. Gourd has lost some of his fat cheeks, thick neck and bristly fur for more of a… marshmallowy feel. I also swear he’s turned darker orange, it’s not just the shitty phone camera and lighting. We’re still working out a few things like letting me touch bellies and paws without getting nipped, but otherwise I’m really pleased.Anyhow, that’s my update I guess. Now nobody will be surprised by random photos/art of an orange cat :) -- source link
