toadschooled:This highly unusual frog has a remarkable adaptation. Native to the cold waters of Argentina’s lagoons, Atelognathus patagonicus has a maze of capillaries running through its thin, flappy skin. These frogs can take in oxygen directly from the water of their habitat and absorb it right into their blood. This adaptation comes at a price, however; these frogs are extremely sensitive to water changes as well as predation, and they’ve suffered an extreme population decline in certain areas as a result of human interference.
