Hiraeth Creature #1188 - Makiabra“The deep parts of Hiraeth’s wetlands are often regarded with fear and spoken about in low whispers. Old coven grounds are considered extremely dangerous, where the witches of ancient times practicing dark and taboo arts. The covens of the modern era have left those rituals to be but a memory, never to be preformed again, and now tend to the natural balance rather than distort it. Some of these shadowy places will forever be buried under filth, flowing to the brim with forlorn and macabre energies, engraved into the earth like an epitaph carved onto a tombstone. Other coven grounds are proving to be less deeply dug in their graves and are being purified over time by spirits. Among these spirits are ones known as Makiabra, soothsayers of moonlit mires. Born as sprites who swam in shallow ponds, they have grown with the stories of befouled nooks plaguing their home. Though the perpetrators have all been dealt with, banished far away, their demise did not readily right the sins they had committed. Makiabra worked together for many years to keep the waters clear of malicious spirits and abominations, using powerful water magic to keep them at bay. They also tended to the flora that grew rich in the isles crafted by countless rivers and streams. Eventually, their careful nursing expanded outwards from their flooded glades, eventually growing along the borders of cursed ground and giving them a gateway to enter them without fear of corruption. They’ve turned the these old haunts into sparkling festival grounds, where sprites and beasts meet to play and sing. Makiabra have been known to be stellar conductors, using their tails to guide choirs of critters. Makiabra are very jovial and welcoming of travellers who mean well, and will grant them premonitions and guidance if they so desire.” -- source link
