Hiraeth Creature #1175 - Glavamoru“Many travellers don’t seek out the highest pinnacles the mountains of Hiraeth have to offer. Many mountains have well established paths and pavilions for the ease of pilgrims who wish to commune with the Moon Goddess or meditate among wind spirits, but it takes many more days of exploring to see all a single mountain has to offer. Mountain summits have more to offer than a beautiful vista, and is often where a lot of Hiraeth’s most magical ores grow in abundance. If one wished to mine these precious metals, they’d have to contend with Glavamoru— sky-sailing leviathans with powerful jaws that let them graze through mountain stone with ease. They are wary of explorers and would-be fortune seekers poking around their ore vein orchards, and rivalling the size of an airship, there’s little a common traveller could do to ward them away. Glavamoru are capable of spewing balls of lighting at their enemies and can even channel lightning bolts to arc off their belly, but this is most often reserved for real competition and predators entering their air space, and usually all they need to do to dissuade a treasure hunter is to breath hard enough to send them tumbling down the slopes. The Glavamoru’s attunement to lightning lets them freely fly through storms, allowing them access to the skies when most other flying beasts are grounded. Calves often play gleefully during unimaginable tempests while their mothers lazily glide through the sea of clouds. They have their diet to help thank for this advantage— Glavamoru primarily graze on magical ore known as Cloud Stone and Thunder Iron. Individually, each can be turned into a vast armoury of powerful shielding, weaponry, or trinkets, and the two together increase the Glavamoru’s resilience substantially. Once they hit full-size, very few creatures can threaten them. The blessings of the Earthen Maiden ensure ore and gemstones grow plentiful in Hiraeth for the beasts who rely on them, but despite this abundance, Cloud Stone and Thunder Iron only seem to occur in the highest of reaches and Glavamoru are stern keepers. Each ore and crystal plays a different role in terms of magical and physical properties, so if one could find an excess of ore deeper down in the Undercroft that they didn’t have a personal want for, they could harvest it and negotiate a trade with the Glavamoru. Cloud Stone arms are said to be incredibly light-weight and are brimming with magical power, while Thunder Iron is some of the heaviest material in Hiraeth, forged into deadly weapons and armour even a giant would have trouble sundering. It is the kind of regalia one would imagine a hero from legend would ride out to adventure in, but one has to strike a deal with the brutish merchant guarding it before such a dream can be fulfilled.” -- source link
