Hiraeth Creature #1174 - Ani-Ater“Far away from the known world is the clandestine Harbour Lands, seated away and purposefully exiled from Hiraeth. Shadows of faceless soldiers line the cliff tops, their weapons commanding windstorms to sink any vessel who comes too close. A bulwark of ships left as mangled wooden skeletons and the sunken souls of the seafarers within them still haunt the waters of the western sea. Just as with Hiraeth, life finds a way to flourish in the strangest of circumstances, but one can’t help but feel an overwhelming aura of loneliness and dread when seeing the Harbour Lands loom over the horizon. The arduous and wearying task of entering this place rewards one only with a sense of intrusiveness as the winds of the inner catacombs seem to whisper for one to leave, always pushing against the skin of interlopers no matter what path they traverse. One of the only crews known to make it off their boat alive and breach the towering stone walls was the crew of the Sunrise, who spent many days and many nights navigating the deep maze the inhabitants of the Harbour Lands left behind. They encountered many odd creatures and creations making a home out of the abandoned complexes, but one of these beings would set their quest of exploration on a new course. A flying phantasm that ghosted their steps known as an Ani-Ater. Many of the crews’ encounters ended in the echoes of wing flaps and shadow overhead that was gone as quickly as they could blink, but the one time they found the beast unwilling to flee would change them forever. At first the creature left feathers, which would fill the ears with murmurs when touched. The Captain of the Sunrise collected as many as she could, claiming to hear more and more voices the more she kept on her person. The undertones grew into a foreign speech she could not understand as the crew got closer and closer to the nest of the Ani-Ater. As one stayed perched on a pale tree, the Captain reached out and touched the beast as if compelled and had her mind pulled into a far off place. She saw visions of countless lives passing over her eyes: dreams of a people who could forge creation from their bodies and weaved their souls into silk. After witnessing dream after dream for what felt like years, the Captain awoke, changed, and with the knowledge of how to escape the abyssal labyrinth, promising her crew they would see the Moon of the Harbour Lands together on the surface.” -- source link
