Hiraeth Creature #1172 - Vez-Dirni“Known as “Dire Shivers” to the inhabitants of the Deep Realm, Vez-Dirni are embodiments of the chilled, dark places. Apparitions who bring a bone-cutting cold with them wherever they go, they are born from the loneliest parts of the Deep Realm, spawning in the shadows of overgrown caverns and the crags cuts into mountainous glaciers that ring the fields of crumbled ruins and littered bones. Frost coats the flora they glide over, encasing them completely in a shell of ice, which can thankfully make Vez-Dirni easy to spot as they encroach, allowing them to be chased away with fire. To demons in caravans, Vez-Dirni are a small nuisance, but those who travel alone will have a greater chance of being surprised by one of these spectres. Vez-Dirni are lonely creatures and respond to the pangs of other lonely souls, be they present currently or an echo. Ruins, forgotten and unvisited for some time, have been known to turn into crystal palaces, becoming the abode for many Vez-Dirni and making them nearly impossible to explore. What’s more threatening, though, is what a Vez-Dirni can do to an individual. Those who wander the Deep Realm alone and find no solace within themselves are more likely to be targeted by a Vez-Dirni, which will then latch itself onto them. The wayward creature tries to offer companionship but only brings a ghastly chill, often incapacitating their host into a deep freeze and crystallizing them. This fate can be exceptionally dreadful, but this is one of many reasons demons and imps feel the need to travel together— their world is one of hardship and survival is key, even if they don’t always see eye-to-eye. While a Vez-Dirni can be scared off with flame they can actually be spoken to quite plainly which many don’t realize. If a Vez-Dirni is addressed and asked to keep their distance, they will, but unfortunately many wandering alone miss the tell-tale signs of their approach until it is too late. There are those who are said to have survived the Vez-Dirni’s icy tomb and come out changed, their skin turned blue and freezing to the touch. These souls are said to become immune to all manner of cold and become shepherds of Vez-Dirni, able to rally them to battle and converse with them and other ghostly beings as friends, the once entombed being becoming something ethereal themselves.” -- source link
