Hiraeth Creature #1169 - Seghala“The people of the Mystic Veil have always had a strong connection to the beasts of the eastern wilds. Their cities and towns were open to them, living side-by-side and aiding each other in all manner of tasks. While the folk of the Veil tried their best to protect the animals they saw as kin, they would sometimes need to rely on the animals to protect them as well. When walking upon haunted or cursed grounds, there is few better allies than a Seghala— dusky beasts who can slink between realms. Along the eastern frontier and the hilly fields fringing the mist-laden lands, they are known as tricksters: plucking away livestock and shiny objects into thin air, taunting travellers as a gust of wind, as well as gathering children together to coordinate pranks or teach them curse words. Within the Veil, they have been known to do similar hijinks but still are given respect for the watchful eye they lend to travellers and adventurers.Seghala can slip into the interstice between realms, allowing them to hide away from the corporeal world and interact with the ethereal. When particularly dangerous monsters are on the hunt, Seghala have been known to appear before travellers and allow them to grab onto their tail, which acts as way for them to join the creature in the in-between realm where they can become invisible to the prowling beast. The Seghala’s connection to the unearthly also allows them to interact with ghosts, some giving them the title of “Ghost Eaters”. While they do not actually consume moonblind souls, their ability to touch them means they can lash out and fight back against them if they so choose. Seghala have this reputation around the Veil, and convincing one to venture onto haunted ground will give pause to many aggressive spectres. Often a Seghala will need compensation for this mercenary work, usually in the form of a valuable treasure or a feast after their guard duty. If one tries to skip out of this payment, then a Seghala is said to curse them, making them a beacon for ghosts, whether they be docile, intrusive, or downright hostile.” -- source link
