Hiraeth Creature #1165 - Marromoot“The Deep Realm’s strange and unpredictable biomes can feel daunting to travellers born outside of its nonsense logic. Rivers flow backwards into clouds that coat desert mountains with ice, flora grows rampant from the bones of primordial creatures, and ruins from alien places dot the land after being cast aside by reality. Caravans of demons and imps embrace the chaotic and untamed magic that makes up their realm, but within their homeland there is one place even they fear to tread. Within the borders of the Deep Realm is the World Stomach, a place no sane creature should dare to enter. It is a gaping, white nothingness where things are cast in to be erased from memory. Peering into it can feel maddening enough, as the expanse sits still and lifeless. Looking at it with the naked eye is said to be dangerous enough, as the weak-willed will feel inclined to throw themselves in. With a looking glass, one can see old cities, massive skeletons, and even ghosts trapped in white sand, forever crumbling away. It is unknown who placed these things here, but it takes one with immense power to exile something to the World Stomach, and we can only hope it is for a deserving reason. On the rim of the World Stomach, strange white stones grow, covered in eyes and teeth. In rare events, these stones will grow a leg to force themselves out of the ground, becoming a Marromoot. Occasionally the magic of the Deep Realm awakens one of these beasts to stir and traverse the land. It is believed among demons that whenever something truly sinful was cast into the World Stomach, it creates a Marromoot as a sort of gift. On their own, they seem to hop about aimlessly and live docile lives, but if befriended and tamed with gifts of flowering plants to eat, they can become an indispensable ally. Marromoots are perfect friends for pacifists, as they draw in all aggression. When encountering a hostile creature or foe, they will have no choice but to swing at the Marromoot, as if bewitched. The Marromoot feels no pain and every kind of attack hardly scathes their body. The owner of the Marromoot is not immune to this effect either, meaning it is only for those willing to commit to placidity. It takes a strong mind to break away from this strange magnetism, but as long as a Marromoot is kept fed, clean, and happy they will gladly take the brunt of the battles waiting ahead, making them perfect companions for especially dangerous journeys, and giving crafty but otherwise meek adventurers a chance to shine.” -- source link
