Hiraeth Creature #1164 - Tvelivot“Fire is often associated with destruction and rebirth, horrifying and beautiful all-consuming spectacles that change everything around them in only a few moments. In Hiraeth, fire has found places to rest— swathes of land are given sustainable life through overwhelming heat thanks to the grace of fire spirits and the resilience of Hiraeth’s beasts. The Undercroft is known for its many molten caverns, as well as the volcanic upheavals that stretch above ground, creating the Firelands. Thriving in a land of warped stone-bark trees and glistening rivers of molten metal is the stout and hardy Tvelivot, whose carapace deflects all manner of strikes. So protected are these stocky beasts that they remain docile when intentionally struck with a weapon, and they wade leisurely through the Fireland’s streams of liquid iron.Tvelivots live in small social groups, searching of crystals and gemstones to snap up. When faced with threats, they get snug together and form a barbed bulwark, becoming nearly impossible to grab without injury as well as making a spike trap for any Firelands leviathan who would try to stomp on them. Though they can get rowdy when need be, they are primarily peaceful and accommodating creatures, allowing travellers to walk amongst their resting grounds. They even let folk touch them or attempt to lift them up— being as heavy as a cannonball usually means they aren’t carried far, but they are said to have a sensitive chin and will croak softly when scratched beneath it. Tvelivots have been knowns to gather in giant groups in areas where magical ore is plentiful. In these places, they sing songs in a large chorus. These events can be whimsical, but the Tvelivots become unintentional hazards in potential mining locations, making ore hard to reach without disturbing the horde. Sometimes these spots are beneath the blazing rivers and result in the Tvelivots attaching themselves to larger beasts swimming by. Back during the time of kingdoms, expeditions would bring great steam ships, strong enough enough to withstand the heat, down the molten rivers. To detach Tvelivots hitching a ride, a special paddle was made to help swipe critters off the hull and back into the flames where they belong. These paddles have been scavenged by barbarians who live in the Firelands from abandoned ships, and have now become a signature weapon of warriors born from these study tribes.” -- source link
