Hiraeth Creature #1155 - Rytethian“The cradle of Tethys provides as much as it challenges within the endless confines of her underwater expanses. Forever entwined between bounty and hardship, it’s no wonder a myriad of leviathans are born, taking on awe-inspiring and nightmarish forms to contest with one another and the sea herself. One of these beasts, growing large enough to rival the size of kingdom-born sailing ships, is the Rytethian, known to southern folk as “Heir of Tethys”. This title was given to compliment the creature’s grace and ferocity, and was seen with such adoration for their calm, regal nature. Old accounts tell of how Rytethian would swim alongside boats peacefully, warding away other aquatic predators, and quickly making them a symbol of protection and good-tidings amongst the folk who lived and travelled the Sun-Fire Sea. At first glance, it may be hard to believe that the flamboyant Rytethian is an ambush predator, but foreigners to the Sun-Fire Sea should know about the vast canyons of vibrant coral that extend far and wide under crystalline waters. Within the surreal scenery that reefs create, the Rytethian can slink into the backdrop with ease, nearly every movement made in silence. They rise upon their prey with a burst of speed and a snap of their powerful jaws easily ends most hunts. While going primarily after fish and large, docile marine life, they save their inner power when confronted with contending sea monsters. Rytethians can generate a powerful voltage, letting them shoot out quick-but-powerful javelins of lightning from their maw to bombard their foes. The sparkling fins of a Rytethian have a small amount of electricity going through them that can be detected by the touch.Rytethians spend most of their time at sea, but they also come up on land to rest and stretch their legs. They sometimes can be seen patrolling the southern coast and the neighbouring jungle lands, but they usually prefer to explore the islands and archipelagos across the Sun-Fire Sea’s expanse. On land, they still hold their composed and royal demeanour, and won’t refuse a strolling companion. Time apart from folk after the collapse of Hiraeth’s kingdoms has made some of their more feral friends distant and skittish, but the Rytethians still seem at peace with travellers entering their domain.” -- source link
