“When I first arrived I did the Green Hornet television series back in 65, and as I look around man, I mean I saw a lot of human being. As I look at myself I was the only robot there…because I was not being myself and I’m trying to accumulate external security…external technique, the way to move my arms, but to never ask and say what Bruce Lee would have done? IF, the word if, such a thing happened to me. When I look around, I always learn something and that is to be always yourself, and to express yourself, to have faith in yourself. Do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it. Start from the very root of your being, which is "how can I be me?” - Bruce Lee As I have been getting back into the practice of creating art I have been reminded of the philosophies of Bruce Lee. It’s been a while since I’ve created a self portrait. Other than the short moments of looking in the mirror and the tiny window of myself I see on the video calls for work, I rarely look at myself. Creating a self portrait allowed me to appreciate who I am by taking a close look at my features. I tried not to get caught up in the details and accuracy because the temptation of perfection limits the energy I could infuse into the drawing and a lot of the time that thought has prevented me from finishing what I start. Not just in art, but all areas of life. The emotional content is often lost when trying to achieve perfectionism and can cause analysis paralysis. When working from feeling I believe I have more energy to obtain a result that is a unique combination of what I’m observing with my senses and the mood that I’m in at that moment. Trying to achieve perfection feels like I’m constantly living in the unknown realm of the future. Acknowledging my emotions in the present moment places more confidence in what I express on canvas. #portrait #selfportrait #art #brucelee #philosophy #procreate #timelapse (at Kalamazoo, Michigan) https://www.instagram.com/p/CATaUhLA7vr/?igshid=1ud3q1yq4mem8 -- source link
