I haven’t been drawing much lately so I fiddle around with this mermaid to find a groove. My focus has been weak in all areas and I noticed something that has been missing is my daily practice of gesture drawing. It has been a natural meditation practice for me that strengthens my focus and brings a sense of tranquility to the day. Eventhough I’ve known this for a long time, I did not realize the impact it had on other areas of my life. Generally my mind wanders and I’ll lose my train of thought, but in order to have a clear drawing I must bring my attention back to the subject that I’m observing. Similar to bringing the attention back to your breath as a way to align yourself with the present. Thankfully I’ve been doing quite a bit of journaling and it’s helped me to make these observations.
