sternwomen: Some of my friends have asked me recently how I am recovering about the dozen strokes of the cane I got from the Headmistress, while Diane was eavesdropping at the other side of the door on March the 10th. To be honest quite badly. Let me tell you that as usual, Diane used one of her devious tricks to get me into more trouble. When I was getting out of the Head’s study, she quickly turned round facing the wall, pretending she had been standing like that the whole time. Anyway, she murmored in a quite loud tone: “How unfair, last week another boy got 18 for the same thing!” The Headmistress, obviously heard it because she inmediately called me again. "Johnson, please. Get back here. I am not still satisfied. I think six strokes more of the cane, will do better effect on you. Close the door behind you" I could clearly hear Diane slyly giggling when I was walking back towards the Headmistress’ office. It took quite a bit of paper *finagling* to get their granddaughter back into high school at over nineteen for the two years she needed for a *legitimate* degree. But there was a fly in the ointment. Her grandparents lived in the deep south and i their particular school district, corporal punishment in school was still the letter of the law.Students up to the age of nineteen were allowed to attend *regular classes* and were still subject to this form of correction. But since her grand parents had her documents *adjusted* to reflect her age as sixteen, she could finish up her schooling [something her grandparents absolutely demanded] uninterrupted and graduate [on time] as an eighteen year old, even though she would actually be over twenty one at that time.But (remember the fly and the ointment), their granddaughter was not the most *cooperative* of young ladies, and so she would find herself, (a sixteen, seventeen, and eighteen, year old)[according to the altered documents] Getting More than the average girl in the school received for repeated incidents of misbehavior and failure to follow rules and direction.The other shock in her life came when her grandmother re-instituted a long standing policy that finally Got Through To Her. In the past, any *child* of theirs was punished again when it was discovered she was punished in school. As said, That second punishment at home finally got the desired results, and they got the granddaughter [at twenty one] that was respectful, obedient, thoughtful, and one that chose to sit down in some form of comfort all of the time. Something her rebellious, defiant nature prevented her from achieving, most of the time. -- source link
