First and foremost, I deeply apologize on my previous posts about racism vs. antisemitism. I have deleted those posts and posted an apology and explanation on why my posts were wrong. I’m going to leave such discussions to the Jewish community as it’s not my place, and I should have realized that sooner last evening when I was typing up the responses at one in the morning. So again, I am really sorry. I will not presume to speak about Jewish identity ever again. Second, that’s not what we actually said in terms of “well just avoid us.” What we said was, and I quote, “We will happily deal with racists and antisemites for you, but we cannot do this without knowing who they are. A simple matter of saying, “Hey, X is a dickhead, and they did this. Talk about it.” We will reblog the post, screenshot it, talk with them, anything at all possible to make sure that marginalized people in the community do not feel uncomfortable or are not harmed. You don’t have to talk to them. Mention us in the offender’s post in question, send an ask, that’s it. Because you’re right. You shouldn’t have to deal with consistently antisemitic people on a regular basis just to express yourself on Tumblr.” Of course we want Kemetics to be less racist, and that’s why we deal with them ourselves. That’s the very point of this blog, telling people to be less racist and to not interact with racists and embolden them to continue in their racism. That should be implied, not something we state every single time. Now, in terms of looking for it ourselves, that’s where the grey area comes in. There’s criteria we need to look at: is the offender in question doing this for the first time or is it a repeat behavior, how old much the offenses be for us to publicly call them out, etc? This is why we often take a while to respond to something on top of wanting enough people who want to reply reply to the asks we receive. We don’t want endless drama. We don’t want to dig through everyone’s blog for receipts, especially if they’re too old and the person in question has stopped problematic behavior. We want constructive dialogue and action. For this reason, not all of our work is public. Finally, I again want to state that it is deeply troubling and even racist for you to talk down to us about racism when this blog is moderated by POC, not even mentioning how you again and again and again state that this is “Smarm’s blog” and “Smarm’s way of shutting Jewish people up.” Stop it. –Mod Birb -- source link
