doomandgloomfromthetomb: The Feelies - The Good Earth – LIVE! A Friday the 13th special! The Good Earth, The Feelies’ classic second LP, turns 30 years old this month! No one is quite sure of the exact release date, but everyone’s fairly certain it was May of 1986. I’ve been listening to it for probably about 20 years, and it’s an album that never gets old – there’s a pastoral simplicity on the surface, but untold layers lurking beneath. Every time those drums kick in on “The High Road,” I’m hooked. Every home should have a copy of The Good Earth. It’s just that Good. Head to Bar/None to get the reissue (w/ some choice downloadable bonus tracks) if you don’t already have this brilliant album. In honour of the 30th anniversary, I’ve put together a live version of the album – with a twist! The tracklisting has been reversed! I don’t know why. Just shaking things up, or I might just like the idea of an album starting off with “Slow Down.” Feel free to un-reverse if that’s what you’re into. Some of the tunes are straightforward and faithful-to-the-album renditions, while some of them offer interesting twists on the arrangements (and there are guest appearances by side bands The Willies and Wake Ooloo as well). It’s all Good! Speaking of anniversaries! The Feelies are playing some 40th anniversary gigs next month in Woodland, NJ. Special guests are promised and all proceeds are going to fight hunger. I would be there if I could … Long live The Feelies! We’re going with May 15th as the anniversary, solely based on one article in Nassau Weekly by Ken Katkin. Close enough. -- source link
