budapestbug: Veszprem is a majestic city, where ancient cobblestones echo the footsteps of royal figures and legends surround us wherever we go. According to our ancestors, the city was built on seven hills and archaeological finds also prove that this area was inhabited thousands of years ago. The legend passed on through generations, which is dearest to our hearts claims that the city was a favourite for the Hungarian Ruler Geza and his son, who became the country’s first King István (Stephen) I. as well as his wife Gizella. Gizella donated the embroidered robe to the church of the city which had made it the “city of queens” in the interpretation of future ages. The cult of the beatified queen is still kept alive and strengthened by her relics kept in the Cathedral and the Gizella Days Festival recalling the historic era. Veszprém is the nearest city to Bakonyjákó, my mother’s hometown. I visited once when I was 7, so I don’t remember much of it – only that it was very old. I’d like to go back one day. -- source link
