Yesterday marked 36 years to-the-day of my type 1 diagnosis. I celebrated in the most appropriate ways possible: - spent most of the day chasing crazy blood sugars - ‘why is it 335 after working out? i didn’t even have breakfast??” -forgot to bolus for lunch time food, and then…surprise! 58 mg/dl! ‘ why did my sensor let me get this low??’-changed my CGM sensor (much cussing)-read some incendiary bullshit about someone making “here comes diabetes” jokes when someone ordered something with sugar in it-took a moment to thank some family members for watching over me all these years and helping me make it this long - i know i wouldn’t still be here without themAnd then, I went and finally got it. I got my diabetes ink. I’ve been wanting it for a long time - and just finally found the right artist, the right time… all that. I guess at the end of the day, my thoughts on being diabetic after 36 years to sum it up: it doesn’t get easier, you just get better. You get more patient, more tolerant, your pain threshold increases - physically, emotionally. Your finances suffer. You suffer. Your loved ones suffer. But you find a way to make it work. Cheers to us all, for not letting diaBEATus. -- source link
