We go through major, painful, horrid, terrifying experiences. Well, what to do with them? What are they for? Well I think, and choose to affirm, that they are ingredients for creativity. I can only be grateful for the experience I had of getting very near to ending this phase, this existence, in this realm. And I managed to stay around for 40 or 50 more years, which is remarkable. And that’s why I always say to people who are suicidal: Wait until morning. Don’t do it now when you feel like you just have to. Because who knows what the gift is that is trying to be given to you in terms of understanding, and growing, and being compassionate to yourself and to other people. Writing poems is my way of celebrating with the world that I have not committed suicide the evening before. - Alice Walker, Writer’s Symposium by the Sea 2020 -- source link
