fialleril: rubbish78: Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen on Obi-wan’s and Anakin’s relationship in AOTC Okay but I feel like this perfectly encapsulates why their relationship fell apart. Because they were never really on the same page. Obi-Wan thought of Anakin (at least by ROTS) as a friend and brother, and that meant they could trust each other, and banter, and have fun, and he figured he knew Anakin really well, because they were friends and so of course they talked about things. If Anakin was worried about something, or in some trouble, Obi-Wan would know, because Anakin would come to his friends first. That’s what Anakin does. But Anakin thought of Obi-Wan, first and foremost, as a father figure. Someone he looked up to and respected, but also someone he needed to impress, someone he needed to earn validation from - and someone who would be disappointed if he messed up. Someone who couldn’t necessarily understand his problems, and someone who would always be associated with authority (and with the Jedi Council) and therefore not someone he could be completely, brutally honest with. -- source link
