LATA“Sleep, sleep, little one, sleep,"The slithering beast can hear you breathe,It’ll leave you be if only you sleep.”Even among the forest denizens Lata is something of a legend- and a warning. Riodhr, who was part of the woods long before any other, cannot remember a time that Lata did not roam the woods, though he has guesses to its origins: a lost soul taken in the early years by the forest, perhaps, or one made entirely of its wrath in an age before his own resurrection. The latter seems the most likely given the nature of the beast.A beast as mindless as it is cruel, it stalks the woods with a violence unknown to the other guardians, who act as sentinels and protectors against those who step too deeply. Lata hunts for the sheer pleasure of it, ruthless and unforgiving. Only its bond to the deepest heart of the woods keep it from overwhelming the travelers who dare the paths alongside the forest’s borders. -- source link
