unforth: class-struggle-anarchism: class-struggle-anarchism: 70 years ago today, the 6th of August at 8.15 am, the United States government committed an atrocity of almost unimaginable proportions, dropping an atomic weapon on the people of Hiroshima, Japan, without warning. 80,000 men women and children, young and old, were killed where they walked, sat and lay. Of those who weren’t killed instantly, another 60,000 would die of radiation poisoning by the end of that year. 95% of those killed were women, children and other non-combatants. 75 years ago today. I majored in Japanese history and especially studied the war. I consider myself a buff of military history and have read countless first hand accounts of different wars, descriptions of injuries, agony in endless permutations. The one that haunts my dreams, gives me nightmares, makes me nauseous when I remember it, is the compiled collection of first hand accounts I read from people who survived the Hiroshima bombing, and everything they endured, and everything they saw. Never again. We must never allow this to happen again. -- source link
