destielle: ‘Furthermore this is happening on our [non-black people’s] watch. With our money and here is the key part: supposedly for our benefit. And that’s the untold piece of the racism, or any ‘-ism’. It’s not just the discrimination, like I said, that’s just the tool. The point of sexism is not to keep women down, the point of sexism is that the patriarchy, is to elevate men and the keeping women down is just the tool of the upliftment. It’s the same thing racially but nobody wants to pay attention to that, nobody wants to pay attention to the fact that all of this has been designed and created to uplift – and the slavery or the denigration or whatever is just the tool of upliftment. So the way to stay in the game is you say: ‘this has something to do with me! I am not just being an ally for the people over there, but: this is not the world that I want! This doesn’t represent me, this is not where I want my money to go. This isn’t the world I want my children to live in. This is not the legacy that I want to leave. This isn’t the kind of people I want us to be. This policing stuff says something about ME.’ Reverent Deborah Johnson on how allies can help right now (from 14:30min) And this is so well-said. What we see right now more clearly than ever is that our fucked up world sees more value in a constructed concept that is money than in human lives. So since we won’t get rid of this any soon, money unfortunately is the currency of power, thus how we distribute it shapes our immediate world. And that’s why we need to defund the police. To distribute power elsewhere where we want it to be. We communicate our attitude and opinions by the ways we chose to use our money, y’all. -- source link
