This is especially true in athletes. On the hypertension side, initial BP treatment goals aren’t to completely bring blood pressure down to normal. This happens over time. So your patient who just started beta blockers may have a normal high BP. ^^^^ YES! Treat the PATIENT and not the monitor! There are SO many factors which may alter BP: position, pain, meds, full bladder, incorrect size, etc etc etcPersonally, what helps me with Blood Pressure is to really consider the MAP (Mean Arterial Pressure) when doing serial BP readings in the ER.
