It was used as a burial ground for #NativeAmericantribesmen and women of the Wampanoag tribe, as well as a location for #hunting, and later as a fortress during King Philip’s #War during the late 1600’s. From 1946 to 1951, the Massachusetts Archaeology Society conducted an archaeological expedition in Hockomock Swamp which uncovered thousands of ancient Native American artifacts dating as far back as 6000 years BCE. The location is said to be #haunted by the spirits of former members of the Wampanoag tribe who were virtually eradicated from the area by #European settlers. #Hunters who venture into the swamp report witnessing the spirits of Native American men and women who were killed in battle, as well as witnessing strange glowing orbs and other mysterious lights. Others report encountering the spirits of large canine-like creatures with glowing red eyes, as well as other unidentified creatures. During the late 1970’s several locals reported encountering a giant, half-man, half-ape creature lurking in the swamp, and on several occasions hunters have reported witnessing a mysterious flying creature described as resembling a giant, winged #dinosaur. In the early 1900’s, residents of #Bridgewaterbegan to report encountering mysterious unidentified flying objects (#UFOs) in the sky above the Hockomock Swamp, which they described as resembling large, floating lanterns, with blinking, swirling lights. Reports of UFO activity in the swamp continues to present day, with many also claiming to witness black, unmarked #military helicopters that appear in the skies shortly after.
