personaldaemons:consultingsuperhusbands:egly:Because I love the way Sam looks at Dean and baby 《3If you dont think this gifset is the cutest thing get out of my faceOkay but you guysSam? Not so good with kids. But Dean? Friggin’ expert. Give him an upset child and he’ll have that tiny human smiling in 30 seconds or less. This is Dean Winchester, “daddy’s blunt little instrument”. He tortured souls in hell, he’s seen horrors no one should, he’s practically a serial killer. Dean thinks he’s worthless, thinks no one wants him around, thinks he’s only good as muscle. Dean’s hidden his feelings so deep they burn at the core of his heart and even Jules Verne couldn’t write a book about how to get to ‘em. He’s the guy who “can’t be normal”. He thinks he’s not meant to be a civilian. But Sam? Sam knows his brother. He knows that Dean’s also the Righteous Man, he knows that Dean does everything he does to help someone, not hurt. Dean was the one to raise Sam, who dried his tears and changed his diapers and gave him chicken soup when he was sick and beat the shit out of the kids who bullied him at school. He’s the one who made sure Sammy had cake on his birthday and he’s the one who looked at the “A”s Sam got on his tests and smiled so big it lit the room. See, Dean Winchester might think he’s only good for violence, that he could never be anything more than a soldier, but his baby brother knows better. Dean may hide behind a tough guy exterior, may pretend he’s fine, may say he couldn’t have a family, but Sam knows the truth.Just look at their faces—Dean is the embodiment of tenderness and care; reverting back to when he took care of his little brother. This is comfort for Dean, this is something that feels right to him, something that he knows he’s good at; that he didn’t mess up. You can practically feel his ease and calm yourself. And Sam—Sam’s just so proud, so happy beyond words, because how long has it been since Dean has looked that relaxed? That calm? How long has it been since Dean’s really been able to care for someone this way? There’s nothing that makes Sam happier than Dean’s happiness. Sam is looking at his brother, a grown man, and seeing that despite all of the shit he’s been through, Dean’s always going to be a guy who takes care of other people. Sam’s seeing what I just wrote about when he’s looking at Dean here—that this is his big brother, who, first and foremost, keeps the people he cares about safe, who puts them first, who’s such a fundamentally good human being. And this is comfort for Sam too. This brings him back to when they were younger and things weren’t so bad, and it grounds him and gives him faith: Dean’s always going to be a big fluffy ball of selflessness and heart. Dean’s always going to be Sam’s brother, just the way Sam remembers him: the bravest person with the golden heart. That confirmation, for Sam? That’s like…euphoria. Just knowing that his brother has these instincts, these abilities to care, to give absolutely to other people, despite all of the terrible things he’s been through.Sam is just so inspired and so proud that Dean is his brother in this scene. He’s seeing the “real” Dean—the big brother with maternal/paternal instincts—for the first time in god knows how long. This is the first time in years that Dean’s really put this on display. This is one of the main reasons why this show hurts so much. Sam has always wanted a normal life, but deep down, he believes he can never have one; Dean, deep down, wants a normal life, but openly says he could never have one.Take a good look, guys—these are the Winchesters for real. No facades, no masks, no lies, no disguise as to what they want in life. They’re brothers. Family. And that’s always gonna come first.…my heart hurts I made myself cry ow (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ -- source link
