ami-angelwings:Cis is also not even a recently invented word. Not that it would matter, since even if it was made up recently, it wouldn’t invalidate its meaning or usage, but it’s existed since as long as “trans”.Cis is just the latin prefix opposite of trans. Cis means ‘on the same side of’, trans means ‘on the other side of”. People who are familiar with chemistry are probably already aware of the word cis and its meaning. I mean, it’s not like “trans” was made up just to describe trans people either. We use it all the time, in transportation, transformation, transference. These are all words that refer to something going from one place to another, so cis is used in the opposite way, something staying in the same place. Both prefixes already have defined meanings, and so cisgender is just describing a state of your gender identity being on the same side as your gender assigned at birth. It doesn’t mean “normal” (which is probably why some cis people hate it so much) and it’s not an insult. It’s a descriptive term. -- source link
