art-of-swords:Hand-and-a-half SwordDated: circa 1550-80Culture: German or SwissMeasurements: overall length 123.6 cm; blade length: 95.3 cm; width: 23.5 cmWith a broad double-edged blade formed with a short point of flattened diamond section changing to flattened hexagonal section with a very shallow fuller at the forte, the sword has a small fleur-de-lys mark inlaid on both sides (together with the letter V).The hilt is finely constructed of blackened iron hilt of robust octagonal bars decorated with a filed moulding on both sides at the centre, comprising a pair of long horizontally recurved quillons with large stopper-shaped terminals.A kidney-shaped ring-guard is placed over the centre while the inner-guard is a smaller ring drawn down towards the blade in the middle. The large stopper-shaped pommel is fitted with a small calyx shape under the button.
