densley3:ancientsumeriancurse:geekbeyond:#MildlyInteresting │ Found a very sad recipe in my mom’s old depression cookbook (via coffeeandcontemplate )It took me a moment to realize they ‘Depression” as in the era of depression and not the emotional state of being.I was seriously going to give it a shot.. You know, depending on what kind of ketchup you use, this may be a valid recipe. Let me explain.1 tbsp of oil1 tbsp of white flour1 can of canned whole tomatoes (optional, if you don’t have them, use 2 cans of juice)1 can of concentrated tomato juice2 tbsp of sugar1 tsp saltBlack pepper powder4 pcs of whole cloverWaterRoast flour/oil mix till it starts smelling like a fresh bread, then add a bit of water and dissolve until smooth. Add everything else (water depending on how thick you want it to be) and boil. If you added canned tomatoes, blend it till smooth. You can add a whole onion if you are feeling fancy (in that case boil till onion turns soft). Congrats, you just made a great yet fairly simple tomato soup. Serve with grated cheese or croutons or both. Now let’s check out what is in the ketchup.Tomatoes. Sugar. Salt. Black pepper. Clover. Possibly cinamon. Doesn’t it sound familiar? Maybe start with that flour/oil step first to make the consistence a bit thicker but yeah, ketchup soup. -- source link
