sew-sweet-sew-strange:cell113:hooked-at-weiss: afewdroppedstitches: vintagestitchery: Make Do and Mend: Darning OMG DIAGONAL!!! To keep it S–T–R–E–T–C–H–Y–! Why hasn’t anyone told me this? I’m all for darning and mending clothes. I interrupt my (mostly) crochet blog for this darn reblog. ❤ HOLY SHIT I NEVER KNEW HOW TO DO THIS YES I saw a blog post about darning socks, specifically, that recommended embroidery floss as opposed to standard thread. Also, a darning ball is basically something roughly egg-shaped, smooth, and solid (so you can’t accidentally sew into it). A billiard ball or smooth rock , or something drum-shaped like a rounded pill bottle, work just as well. Don’t use a lightbulb. Too fragile. Swiss darning (Ie duplicate stitch as in knitting) works better for socks and other knits. Also try to match the fiber type of the fabric with the darning thread. Check etsy or historical reenactment costume supply sites for non-polyester thread. -- source link
