ava-et-liz: Photos of Ava Gardner in Spain. Ava fell in love with Spain—its culture and its people—while there filming Pandora and the Flying Dutchman (1951), and moved there in 1955. She remained there until 1968, when she moved to London. Her home in Madrid was named “La Bruja” (The Witch), called that because it came with a witch “complete with broomstick…doing duty as the weathervane.” She bought it unfurnished, so she and housekeeper Renie Jordan shopped for furniture and decor in Madrid (Ava had a penchant for china, and loved looking in Spanish markets for it and other things.) She said, “I filled La Bruja with books and records and, for the first time since I’d left North Carolina, I felt I was home." She frequently had parties and allowed strangers into her home and annoyed neighbors by playing flamenco and Frank Sinatra music loudly late at night. -- source link
