borkthemork:annaleigh:caught in the rain The horizon was lit in lazy orange, and yet it was still drizzling, the clouds from the west starting to cover the Eastern Central sky. Riza didn’t think much of it. She had an umbrella ready nearby — it would just be a quick dash to the car and both of them could continue the investigation without much interference. The colonel, on the other hand, harbored a deep glower that made a smile crack onto her lips.“My weather predictions are lousy today,” he huffed. They were under a small tree, trying to travel up the path back to the dirt lot. Riza walked beside him, seeing how bunched and short he looked when he tucked himself into his coat. As if he was a turtle, going back into his carapace. “I didn’t expect it to rain so quickly.”“Sometimes probability is loose, sir.”Roy grunted, peeking up at the sky. “Hawkeye, we should run.”She looked at him. The rain tickled her nose, coat starting to get heavy from the water. “Why is that, sir?”“Because the air’s too dense.” At that moment, the drizzle turned into a downpour, and Roy cursed loudly to himself at the onslaught, at the darkening skies.Riza was quick, however. She grabbed the colonel’s hand, squeezed it tightly, and pulled him forward through the chilling air. Thunder rolled above their hands, left her tongue tasting cold, her boots squelching in the newly made mud as their destination got closer. The wind bit her hands, left her form shivering from the slogged military fabric, but in that moment she found herself smiling — to Roy, to herself, and to the thrill of the weather. For at that moment she was pulled back to a different time. Where she was nothing but a girl racing through a countryside, a drenched boy trailing behind her as they dashed back home for dinner. -- source link
