Since we’re talking about fried chicken and watermelon let me bring up the fact that bbq the meal America is known for besides pizza and cheeseburgers was created by slaves given the inedible scraps from the plantation owners AND SOMETIMES DOGS!!!!! slaves were given bits DOGS wouldn’t even eat and turned it into the 1 thing America is known for! I live in Alabama and you can’t go a block without hitting a fried chicken or bbq restaurant and no one knows about that! It was a piece of trivia my college professor mentioned in history class! And honestly that feels like a kick in the face! Right now we are talking about the 1920s where African Americans could become famous and it was called THE HARLEM RENAISSANCE it’s like every bit of success has to be degraded to make white men feel better about themselves -- source link
