@pencilbrony did this commission for me a week or so back. A wonderfully detailed Roseluck in a near-future combat medic’s kit. I wasn’t too sure if I was going to color this one because I knew it would take me a bit out of my comfort zone. Yet, here we are!More words and stuff under the break. There isn’t much reference material for colorful pony combat armors, so I knew I would be improvising much of the pallet. Knowing that most standard issue stuff is going to have some drab colors along with the occasional army green, I went into the task head first. Drawing a few colors from the character it’self. Some more logical like making the helmet the same color as her hair and the visor her dominant eye color, others less obvious like making the background the lightest gradient of her eye and the armor a darker base of her cutie mark.Others may say that’s clever, but my inner mind just says I’m being lazy. Inner mind is why I can’t have nice things.I’m still a bit troubled by the colors I made the main bodysuit. I’m very selective about my pink. I felt better about it when I made it two tones, and even more so when I added the darker tone to the fronts of the hind legs. It was advice from @tricomator and @greyartpost that convinced me to stick with it until it worked. Mentioning the details again, I kept noticing things I missed or things to improve every time I thought I was done. This includes when I started typing out this post! There was a chest strap I noticed mid-sentence and I just had to see how it would look after changing it from reddish brown to a lighter reddish brown. Totally worth it.If you’re reading this far in, thanks again for taking up this commission, man. I still marvel at it, and taking the time to color it has helped me appreciate this all the more. Worth every cent and more. -- source link
