This drawing was published last week in @feminasuisse to talk about the referendum for the Marriage equality / same-sex couple marriage that will take place this Sunday in Switzerland. About the caption: “Je vous déclare mari et femme” is the French version of “I now declare you husband and wife”. But strangely, in French the word “femme” means “woman” as well as “wife”. And “mari et” (meaning “husband and”) sounds exactly like “mariée”, which means “bride”, or “married” (feminine version).
