workingclasshistory:On this day, 8 February 1915, D.W. Griffith’s infamous film The Birth of a Nation premiered in Los Angeles. The three-hour racist film was the first major blockbuster in the United States, and glorified the Ku Klux Klan and portrayed Black people in the worst ways possible. It was also the first movie to be screened at the White House for president Woodrow Wilson, a well-known racist. Even though the way the history is presented in the film is generally no longer accepted, its impact on white supremacy still lingers to this day, and it inspired a resurgence in KKK membership. https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1648147562037054/?type=3Also a good day to remember that Superman battled KKK in his radio show in 1946. The story was recently made into a comic book, by creators Gene Luen Yang and Gurihiru. https://northoftheroad.tumblr.com/post/186978156990/superman-and-batman-robin-on-radio -- source link
