The theme of family appears many times in Glencairn’s decorative program, represented by sheep and lambs. This is one of two benches flanking the fireplace in the inglenook in Glencairn’s Great Hall. Sculptures of a ewe and ram, representing mother and father, form the armrests. The names of Raymond Pitcairn’s parents and siblings are carved near the top of this bench, and the names of Mildred Pitcairn’s parents and siblings are carved near the top of the opposite bench. The sides of the benches are carved with the names of their nine children. These inglenook benches were made from teakwood in the 1930s in the Bryn Athyn Studios.
