Allow me to back-track… I discovered that I had scanned a “page” early in the collection that was actually two pages - they’d stuck together so well when I was handling them I hadn’t noticed. This scan actually belongs between BISH0175 and BISH0176, but this time I will spare us all the trouble of renumbering over 200 scans to “insert” it into the right place. You may all make a mental note to yourselves, and decide if you want to renumber your own collections. I do not recommend this. Anyway, this is a rather nice piece of pen and ink work depicting a muscular blonde in a very strident suspension. Ropes support her from a brief harness of rope around her breasts and shoulders, and a separate line is run off to run through her crotch. Her legs are folded and strapped up against her buttocks, and her feet are bound and suspended as well. Her arms are tied in a virtual web of rope, and drawn up behind her, painfully forming a strappado effect even though she is suspended. A cord from her wrists crosses over her wire rim glasses and her nose to circle around her chin and pull her head back. She has tape over her mouth, and for a change, a cloth is tied *over* the tape, pulling it deeper into her mouth. A nicely done piece of work! The facing page is a brief “point/counter-point”, which might be actual quotes, or a fiction for the readers’ enjoyment: “The Bishop will never make it as a B&D artist because he can’t draw boots” - Yogi Bear, 1971 Have any more predictions Yogi? - Barbara Behr, 1979 If you’re not aware, Barbara Behr was the chief editor and producer for HOM at the time Bishop was working there. She produced some of HOM’s best work, both with and without the Bishop. I don’t know if “Yogi Bear” was a pseudonym used by a critic, or if the above “exchange” is entirely made-up. And yes, it seems the Bishop did finally get the knack of drawing boots, didn’t he? [Bloggers Note: Until now, references to other posts have been replaced by a more or less equivalent phrase. From now on, references to image numbers in the original archive will be kept and the archive name of the posted image will appear in square brackets below the image comments by Hunter Rose. So since this is #400 in the Bishop archive …] [BISH0401] -- source link
