One of the things I’ve always found fascinating is Setsuna’s feelings for Mamoru, which isn’t something I precisely ship, but more that I find it interesting from her side of things. It’s one of those things that doesn’t need to go anywhere to be satisfying on its own, sometimes the feelings in and of themselves are worthwhile to experience, that’s a theme I see in a lot of stories. And I love that it’s always balanced with Setsuna’s affection for Chibi-Usa and her admiration of/care for Usagi, that her having feelings for Endymion doesn’t tangle badly with her relationships with his wife and daughter. Instead, she seems to love Chibi-Usa pretty instantly because she’s her mother and father’s daughter, until she gets to know her and love her for herself, too. (Though, I think it’s more complicated than that, that Setsuna also instantly recognized someone who felt lonely and her heart went out to Chibi-Usa for that, not just because ~*~OMG Endymion And Serenity’s Daughter OMG~*~.)This is something that Chibi-Usa doesn’t really understand how to do, the whole sense loving someone and not needing them or being jealous over them. It’s why Setsuna’s happiness at seeing Endymion throws Chibi-Usa for a loop, I think. She’s spent so much time being Setsuna’s special person, the one she smiled for, but now Setsuna’s smiling for someone else, smiling more happily than Chibi-Usa’s ever seen her do. And that’s gotta hit some nerves, given how much tension there is between Usagi and Chibi-Usa whenever Usagi smiles at Mamoru in the same way (or when her Mama smiles at her Papa in the same way) and Chibi-Usa feels like a third wheel all over again. -- source link
