CLOUD SHADOWThis image was acquired by the Advanced Land Imager (ALI) on the Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) satellite on November 20, 2012, and shows a layer of clouds casting a shadow over another cloud deck below. The upper cloud deck was more than one kilometre above the ground while the lower one was less than one kilometre up. Both the cloud layers were composed of stratus clouds which are a low lying type of cloud that is usually uniform and flat. At the time ALI captured the image, the clouds were above north-eastern Germany. The NASA Earth Observatory image was created by Jesse Allen and Robert Simmon, using Advanced Land Imager data from the NASA EO-1 team. At full resolution, each pixel from an ALI image corresponds to 10 metres of the Earth’s surface. -TELhttp://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/IOTD/view.php?id=80039&src=fbInstrument: EO-1 - ALI -- source link
