One of my favorite quotes, “the nation that controls magnesium will control the universe,” a spoof of ultra-reductive single-cause theories of history, comes from Matt Groening’s underground alt-weekly comic strip, Life in Hell, which he created before the Simpsons, back when he was an underground comics artist. It is a paraphrase of a dead-serious line from the 1960s Dick Tracy strip, when he went into space to stop the underworld from stealing Moon Gold. -- source link
